Biography
Comprising Joe Pernice (guitar, vocals), Stephen Desaulniers (bass, vocals), Bruce Tull (lap steel guitar, vocals) and Tom Shea (drums, mandolin), Scud Mountain Boys were among a new, more eclectic generation of bands signed to the home of grunge, Sub Pop Records. Formed in 1991 in Northampton, Massachusetts, USA, by Pernice, Tull, and Desaulniers, the band trod a path close to country rock which prized traditional American songwriting values (somewhat akin to the Band) more than fashionable artistic pigeonholes. Although they started their careers as a rock-orientated band, their songwriting soon began to encompass simple, acoustic songs. Their first release was a track, Two Weeks Past, included on the Swedish compilation Hit The Hay in 1994.
