Biography
High-energy punk pop trio Scared Of Chaka was formed during 1993 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. They took their unusual name from a character in a 70s US childrens show, Land Of The Lost. Comprising Yanul Hernandez (vocals/guitar), Dameon Waggoner (bass), and Ron Skrasek (drums), the trios debut album, Hutch Brown Sayngwich, appeared in 1995 and was followed by a self-titled release and then two recordings (1996s Masonic Youth and 1998s How To Lose EP) for the Seattle based indie label, Empty. Scared Of Chaka then signed with the Sub City label for 1999s Tired Of You and with Hopeless Records for 2001s Crossing With Switchblades. Early on, both Hernandez and Skrasek moonlighted in another group, the Shins, before focusing on Scared Of Chaka full time.
