19 February 1936, Laurel, Mississippi, USA. This masterful harmonica player was originally one of Elmore James Broomdusters working the Chicago circuit. Sammy Myers early fame rests on a song he recorded for Johnny Vincents Jackson, Mississippi-based Ace label. Sleeping In The Ground, with its Jimmy Reed -like lope supplied by The King Mose Royal Rockers, is one of the classic post-war harmonica blues. It was recorded in Jackson in 1957 and the partially blind singer/harmonica player, who also plays drums, went on to produce further singles for the Fury and Soft labels (the latter credited to Little John Myers) before moving back to make his livelihood in the clubs. He recorded for Vincent again, seeing the results issued as part of an album in 1981.
