This quartet from Hamburg, Germany, led by guitarist/vocalist Rock ’n Rolf (Rolf Kasparek, 1 July 1961), were strongly influenced by the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement of the early 80s. They emerged from the ashes of Granite Heart, a school band formed in 1976 by Kasparek, Uwe Bendig (b. 23 October 1961; guitar), Michael Hoffmann (drums) and Jörg Schwarz (bass), although the latter was quickly replaced by Carsten David. Renamed Running Wild in 1980, the line-up of Rolf, Bendig, Matthias Kaufmann (bass) and Hasche Hagemann (b. 7 May 1961; drums) built up a loyal hometown following and cut a demo tape. A second demo, recorded in 1983 by Rolf, Hasche, Preacher (b. Gerald Warnecke, 2 January 1959; guitar, vocals) and Stephan Boriss (b. 12 August 1964; bass), came to the attention of the Noise Records label.
