The drug-addled, chemically-fuelled dirty rock habits of Neil Hagerty (USA; vocals/guitar) and Jennifer Herrema (b. 1972, USA; vocals/sundry instruments) did much to brighten up the US alternative rock scene during Royal Trux’s prolonged existence. Royal Trux was formed in 1985 while Hagerty was still playing guitar in Pussy Galore. He was responsible for the latter’s idea to cover the Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main Street in its entirety. The duo debuted with an untitled 1988 album, and a declared ambition of retracing the US noise scene back to its primal roots (MC5, etc.). Descriptions such as ‘garage psychobilly punk’ proliferated in the press. 1990’s Twin Infinitives double set saw songs based on the works of science fiction writer Philip K.
