Biography

28 March 1969, Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. This country singer-songwriter negotiated a long and rocky path to the top of the mountain, battling childhood illness and recording problems before breaking through in the early 00s. Raised in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, Atkins had already moved through a series of foster parents and suffered a string of serious illnesses before beginning his education. By the time he reached high school his ailments had lifted and he began to take a keen interest in music. After learning the guitar he played throughout high school and college, and by his late teens had established a solid reputation as a new country performer on the Nashville circuit.

Atkins landed a recording contract with Curb Records in 1997, but several years were to pass before any music saw the light of day. Two albums’ worth of songs were completed and scrapped, before Honesty was finally released in 2003. His label’s faith in him...
