10 March 1977, Los Angeles, California, USA. The son of actors Alan Thicke and Gloria Loring, Robin Thicke made a name for himself at the start of the new millennium as a songwriter before launching his own career with a series of slick, pop soul records. Thicke spent his childhood and early teens immersed in music, and was no doubt inspired by the success enjoyed by his mother in 1986 with her adult contemporary hit Friends & Lovers. For a brief period in his early teens Thicke followed his father into the world of television sitcoms, appearing in The Wonder Years and, the show his father made his name in, Growing Pains. Nevertheless, by his late teens Thicke had decided to concentrate on a music career. He signed a publishing contract with Interscope Records and they were able to place hit songs with artists including Marc Anthony, Christina Aguilera, Brandy, Brian McKnight and Usher.
