Biography
22 December 1949, Douglas, Isle Of Man, British Isles. Gibb had already achieved considerable success in the chart-topping Bee Gees when, following a disagreement with his brothers, he elected to go solo. With his distinctive nasal delivery, he initially outdid his fraternal rivals by reaching number 2 in the UK charts in 1969 with Saved By The Bell. When the follow-up, One Million Years, failed to chart, however, it was clear that Gibbs continued success was by no means assured. He scraped into the UK charts again in early 1970 with August October but soon afterwards reunited with his brothers and curtailed his solo adventures. It was not until as late as 1978 that he entered the US charts in his own right, courtesy of Oh! Darling from the soundtrack of the movie Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
