Biography

This US hardcore band was formed by a number of the genre’s most revered practitioners. Walter Schreifels (guitar, vocals) played with the legendary bands Gorilla Biscuits, Youth Of Today and Quicksand. He was joined in the first two bands by Rival Schools drummer Sam Siegler, who also played with Shelter, CIV and Glassjaw. Bass player Cache Tolman played with Siegler in CIV, while guitarist Ian Love was a member of Burn and Die 116.

Formed in 2000, and initially known as Rival Schools United By Fate, the quartet released their debut EP on Schreifel’s own Some Records label. Rival Schools United By Onelinedrawing, recorded with former Far and current Onelinedrawing singer Jonah Matranga, was planned as the first in a series of collaborative records. The EP’s softer, indie rock direction was in marked contrast to the classic hard rock of the band’s fine debut album, released by Island Records in 2001.
