Richard Sanders, 8 December 1952, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. After appearing in local Birmingham bands, violinist Sanders briefly joined Stomu Yamash’ta’s touring group. Having been influenced by both folk and jazz, Sanders subsequently joined both the Soft Machine and the Albion Band. While with the latter he was involved heavily with theatre work, and formed 2nd Vision in 1979, along with former Soft Machine guitarist John Etheridge, Dave Bristow (keyboards), Jonathan Davie (bass) and Mickey Barker (drums). They released their sole album First Steps in 1980.

Sanders returned to session work and released his first solo Whenever. He joined Fairport Convention in 1985, appearing on Gladys’ Leap, and other subsequent releases, as well as touring with the group and taking part in the now legendary Annual Festival at Cropredy in Oxfordshire.
