Biography

Ruth Blair McClosky, 28 December 1951, Needham, Massachusetts, USA. Born into a musical family, Parris received tuition from her parents and an uncle from a very early age. In the 70s, after further studies at the Boston Conservatory of Music, she began working with pop, rock and jazz fusion groups. At the start of the 80s, she started out on a solo career, singing jazz continuing on into the new century. During these same decades, she has also worked extensively as an educator, teaching voice and other subjects. Her record debut came in 1983 with the vocal group, Reminiscence, and since then has recorded numerous albums with small and big bands. Among the artists with whom she has sung are Gary Burton, Eddie Higgins and Phil Wilson. A dynamic performer, with a full, rich sound and commanding stage presence, Parris remains relatively little known internationally. As residents of the north-eastern states can testify, this is a great loss to the jazz world.
