Wardell Raymond Cheeks, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. One of a handful of MCs from Cleveland to break into the national music scene, Ray Cash enjoyed strong notices and notable commercial success with his 2006 major label debut C.O.D.: Cash On Delivery.

The young Wardell Cheeks spent time as a drug dealer in his native Cleveland, but an abiding love of hip-hop prompted him to try his hand at the rapping game. Adopting his new moniker, he began performing on the local underground scene and honing his mic skills. Despite Cleveland’s low profile in the rap world (the one major act to emerge from the city had been Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in the 90s), Cash began to attract notice beyond the confines of the city. He signed a contract with the Ghet-O-Vision imprint, a subsidiary of Sony Urban run by A&R chief Kawan Prather.
