Biography

14 March 1966, Embudo, New Mexico, USA. Midón was born blind but took an interest in music from a very early age. His father was a professional dancer from Argentina. The music he heard as a small child came through listening to records from his father’s collection of folk music of the Argentine, and through his mother, who would die when he was still very young, he also heard contemporary soul. And there was jazz, too, notably records by Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker that made an impression on him.

Midón played drums for a while but then took up the guitar. After graduating from college in Miami he worked as a studio musician, playing Latin American music, before moving to New York in 2001. His repertoire, which blends all the forms that influenced him as a child, is performed with vigour and a refreshing absence of artifice.
