Biography
Charlie Ray Wiggins, 14 May 1966, Oakland, California, USA. This multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer first came to prominence as a part of soul trio Tony! Toni! Toné!. Enjoying a string of US R&B hits in the late 80s and early 90s, the trio were a notable influence on the neo-soul scene that emerged at the end of the 90s. After Tony! Toni! Toné! split-up, Saadiq worked with DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) and Dawn Robinson (En Vogue) in the urban supergroup Lucy Pearl. The trio released a solitary album in 2000 before Saadiq sundered relations with his collaborators in less than amicable circumstances. His long overdue solo album, Instant Vintage, was released in June 2002. Issued through Universal Records on Saadiqs own Pookie Entertainment imprint, the album debuted in the US Top 30.
