Biography
Randy Lynn Scruggs, 3 August 1953, Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Randy Scruggs was born into a very musical family. His father was bluegrass star Earl Scruggs and he appeared on stage with Flatt And Scruggs at the age of nine. In the late 60s he played guitar on albums recorded by his brother Gary, Flatt And Scruggs, Guy Clark, Johnny Darrell, the Glaser Brothers and Waylon Jennings. As a teenager, Scruggs showed musical leanings towards contemporary country and rock and with his brother he formed the Scruggs Brothers rock band, recording for Vanguard Records: All The Way Home (1970) and The Scruggs Brothers (1972). Concurrently, he continued to back a wide variety of artists on record dates, among them the Byrds, Bob Dylan and Linda Ronstadt. His early 70s activities also included appearing with his father and brothers Gary and Steve as the Earl Scruggs Revue, making numerous live dates and many albums.
