Biography
24 December 1956, London, England. So assured, so steeped in the post-bop language and sensibility is Ralph Moore that it can come as a surprise that he is actually a British-born saxophonist (he has an English mother and an American father). He began learning the trumpet when he was 14, but was gradually seduced by the tenor saxophone. He moved to the USA at 15, settling on the west coast and served his apprenticeship in Americas jazz hothouse environment until he reached a standard that enabled him to study at the prestigious Berklee College Of Music in Boston. Leaving after a couple of years, his innate ability and solid, raspy tone led to a period with the great drummer Roy Haynes, and then three years with the legendary hard-bop pianist and leader Horace Silver.
