Playing an explosive mixture of ska, punk pop and reggae, this US band was formed in Seal Beach, California in 1997. Originally known as the Pharmaceutical Band, the first line-up featured Matthew Embree (vocals/guitar), Christopher Tsagakis (27 July 1979, USA; drums), Franz Worth (bass), Rich Balling (trombone), and Noah Gaffney (saxophone). After recording a demo tape, the quintet completed the album Those Damn Bandits, for the tiny Antedote label. At this point they were playing straightforward ska that was better experienced at the band’s energetic live shows than on record. The album was subsequently re-released by the established independent label Drive-Thru label. The 1998 follow-up, Halfway Between Here And There, saw the band moving into more eclectic musical territory, mixing ska and hardcore freely throughout the brief running time.
