Biography
This progressive bluegrass group was formed in 2006 by mandolinist Chris Thile (Christopher Scott Thile, 20 February 1981, Oceanside, California, USA). A rising star of contemporary bluegrass and former member of Nickel Creek, Thile first named his group How To Grow A Band but this was soon changed to the Tensions Mountain Boys before settling in 2007 on Punch Brothers. Others in the band are Gabe Witcher (violin, known for his studio and film soundtrack work), Noam Pikelny (banjo, ex-Leftover Salmon, John Cowan Band), Chris Eldridge (guitar, a founding member of the Infamous Stringdusters, occasional member of Seldom Scene), and Greg Garrison (bass, ex-sideman with Vasser Clements, John Scofield), while guitarist Bryan Sutton is a regular addition or stand-in.
