This Euro pop/synthesizer unit left their native Germany to arrive in England in 1983. Propaganda originally comprised founder members Ralf Dörper (11 January 1960, Düsseldorf, Germany; keyboards, ex-Die Krupps) and DJ Andreas Thein, with Susanne Freytag (b. 3 September 1957, Düsseldorf, Germany; vocals), Claudia Brücken (b. 7 December 1963, Berchenz, Germany; vocals, ex-Toppolinos) and Michael Mertens (b. 23 October 1953, Stendahl, Germany; percussion, ex-Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra). They found an early advocate in Paul Morley of ZTT Records, and their first release, ‘Dr. Mabuse’, rallied well in the UK charts, reaching number 27.
