This Spice Girls influenced Swedish teen pop quartet was touted as their native country’s biggest pop export of the early twenty-first century. Play was formed in Stockholm by vocalists, Anaïs Lameche (19 August 1987), Anna Sundstrand (b. 22 February 1989), Rosie Munter (b. 26 September 1987), and Faye Hamlin (b. 23 October 1987). Play’s beginnings can be traced back to a dance school that both Lameche and Sundstrand were attending, which was where future co-manager Laila Bagge was looking for marketable talent. Bagge soon convinced the duo to sign on with his new project, whose line-up was filled out by school friends, Munter and Hamlin (selected from a supposed pool of 700 ‘hopefuls’).
