Biography
This Irish folk band, who take their name from an Irish word for an air that is written to thank or honour a person, originally featured Christy Moore (7 May 1945, Prosperous, County Kildare, Eire; guitar/vocals), Dónal Lunny (b. 10 March 1945, Tullamore, County Offaly, Eire; guitar, bouzouki, synthesizer), Liam OFlynn (b. Kill, County Kildare, Eire; uillean pipes) and Andy Irvine (b. 14 June 1942, London, England; guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, vocals). The line-up had formed at sessions for Moores 1972 release Prosperous. After two groundbreaking albums that fused traditional music with modern folk, Lunny was replaced by Johnny Moynihan (bouzouki) on Cold Blow And The Rainy Night. In 1974, Moore left and was replaced by another highly talented singer-songwriter, Paul Brady (b. 19 May 1947, Strabane, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland; vocals/guitar).
