Biography
1974, Iowa, USA. Raised in Iowa, Browns early life was awash with music as her father is folk singer and songwriter Greg Brown and her sisters, Constie and Zoe, also sing. Later, living near Birmingham, Alabama, with her mother, Pieta began writing song lyrics and poetry and she also played piano. Her style of writing and singing draws not only from folk but also from country, while, inevitably for almost anyone in popular music today, there are also touches of soft rock. Browns skill with language is revealed not only by the lyrics she writes but also through her studies at the University of Iowa, where she gained a degree in Linguistics. When she was not long out of her teenage years, Brown began playing guitar and performed at various venues throughout the USA, mainly in southern and Midwestern states. In addition to her own songs, Browns repertoire includes traditional folk ballads, country blues and gospel hymns.
