Biography
Pia Alfreda Schipani, 4 May 1954, Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. Showbusiness influences were around Zadora from birth. Her father, Alphonse Schipani, played violin in Broadway pit orchestras and her mother, Saturnina Zadorowski, was a theatre wardrobe supervisor. At the suggestion of a teacher she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Art as a means of overcoming shyness. In 1961, she was selected by noted screen and stage actor Burgess Meredith to appear in Midgie Purvis; the shows star was veteran actress Tallulah Bankhead. This was followed by other Broadway appearances, among them Garden Of Sweets (which starred Katina Paxinou) and We Take The Town (with Robert Preston), Fiddler On The Roof (playing the character Bielke for two years), and Henry, Sweet Henry.
