Biography
1952, South London, England. A distinctive singer and guitarist with the critically adored late 70s UK new wave outfit the Only Ones (and before that Englands Glory), Perrett disappeared in 1981, succumbing to the heroin addiction that had caused so many problems for his previous band. Though rumours of his whereabouts and well-being persisted, it was not until the early 90s that he re-emerged on the live scene, playing his first gigs under a new pseudonym - The One. That he was welcomed back was owing in no small part to his enduring reputation as a songwriter, but also his media image as the UKs answer to Johnny Thunders (coincidentally, Thunders biographer, Nina Antonia, also worked on a Perrett anthology). The One eventually took the stage for the first time at Londons Underworld venue in January 1994, as Perrett announced that during the previous three years he had written over 40 new songs.
