Biography
17 September 1952, Yanguaji, Cuba. Playing guitar and tres as well as singing, Ferrer first attracted attention in the mid-60s when he relocated to Havana where his performances drew accolades for his contemporary take on the traditions of Cuban music. He played with bands led by artists such as Carlos Alfonso and Mike Porcella, blending changui, son, trova espirituana and especially guaracha with rock-style songs. Although the music he plays and sings is always melodic, typically, the lyrics of the songs that Ferrer composes take as their focal point the hardships that daily face ordinary people. The songs that he has recorded, often his own compositions, include Meneito, Tarde Se Ha Puesto Triste, Fundamento, Inseminación Artificial and Entre Espuma Y Arena.
