Biography
13 July 1964, Tupelo, Mississippi, USA. Thorn was not the only singer-songwriter from the American south to start turning out a rootsy mix of folk, rock, country, blues, and soul in the 90s, but he is surely the only one who also boxed with world champion Roberto Duran. The son of a Pentecostal preacher, Thorn grew up with a love of gospel music, but before he turned his attentions to performing, he developed an interest in boxing, and was a professional pugilist in the 80s. Subsequently embracing his musical calling, he diligently pursued his muse throughout the 90s while toiling in a day job. He was discovered by famed manager Miles Copeland at a gig in a Tupelo pizzeria, and was subsequently signed to A&M Records for his 1997 debut, Hammer And Nail.
