Biography
1937, Buffalo, New York, USA. For many years Siebel was a popular performer in Greenwich Village clubs. His blend of country and folk music predated its more widespread appeal following the release of Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline in 1969. Although actively pursuing a musical career throughout most of the 60s, it was not until the start of the following decade that the singer made his recording debut. Woodsmoke And Oranges (1970) was a critically acclaimed collection and featured ‘Louise’, Siebel’s original composition, which was later covered by several acts, including Linda Ronstadt and Iain Matthews. The 1971 follow-up Jack-Knife Gypsy was equally meritorious and an excellent supporting group, including Richard Greene (fiddle) and David Grisman (mandolin), enhanced Siebel’s evocative delivery.
