Biography
Oscar Jackson Jnr., 29 October 1967, Illinois, USA. Paris is a hardcore black Muslim rapper, widely shunned by the mainstream for his militant views. Based in San Francisco, Paris recorded his first single, Scarface Groove, in 1989. However, his breakthrough came with Break The Grip Of Shame, a typically informed and effective rant against the degradation of black communities and the need for change. It was a sublime piece of west coast hardcore, the first fruits of his recording contract with Tommy Boy Records, which saw him hailed on MTV. The video was a provocative cocktail of footage containing uniformed revolutionaries in Africa, and images of Malcolm X and the Black Panthers. Both singles and the equally gripping The Hate That Hate Made were featured on Paris 1990 debut, The Devil Made Me Do It.
