Biography
This US celebrity rock band was formed by actor Johnny Depp (9 June 1963, Owensboro, Kentucky, USA) and Gibby Haynes (b. Gibson Jerome Haynes, USA) of the Butthole Surfers in 1995. Depp, a film superstar of the 90s through movies such as Edward Scissorhands and Benny & Joon, had previously played on Shane MacGowan And The Popes debut album and had associated with several rock stars. He had actually harboured dreams of his own band ever since running away from home in Florida as a teenager, moving to Los Angeles in the hope of finding a recording contract for his then band. His ambitions were realized when Depp met Haynes through a mutual friend, Sal Jenco, at the Viper Room club (owned by Depp). Jenco became the bands drummer, with Depp on vocals and bass, Haynes on lead vocals and Bill Carter on guitar and bass.
