Biography
1969, Sydney, Australia. Ambarchi is an electronic guitarist and percussionist who creates music that rejects conventional instrumental approaches. It is perhaps telling that Ambarchi is the co-organiser of an Australian experimental music festival, What Is Music? He also teaches improvisation at the University of Western Sydney. Ambarchi initially played drums in a group named Ear Rational Music, apparently switching to guitar after seeing Haino Keiji play in New York. Subsequent projects include a stint in noise/improv group Phlegm, punk duo MS (for whom he played drums) and the more song-based project Sun. A serial collaborator, he has worked with artists such as Fennesz, Otomo Yoshihide, Pimmon, Keith Rowe and Evan Parker and featured on in excess of 15 collaborative releases.
