Biography

Kent Dykes, 1950, McComb, Mississippi, USA. Omar began playing guitar in the town's tough blues clubs at the age of 13. Forming the Howlers, he built up a reputation throughout Mississippi and the south, before moving on to Austin, Texas, and recording two albums for independent labels in the early 80s. Featuring Omar's powerful guttural blues voice and the tight rhythm section of Bruce Jones (bass) and Gene Brandon (drums), the band's powerful live shows won them a loyal fanbase. Signing a contract with Columbia Records in 1987, they released the acclaimed Hard Times In The Land Of Plenty album that year, gaining Omar extensive radio exposure for the first time in his career. An expanded band toured throughout Europe and signed a licensing agreement with the Dutch label Provogue, with Omar releasing the his debut solo set Blues Bag in 1991. A live album recorded in Amsterdam was followed by the first Howlers studio release for three years, the musically diverse...
