Biography
Nicolette Suwoton, 7 January 1964, Glasgow, Scotland. Although born in Scotland, Nicolette was raised in Nigeria, France, Switzerland and Wales. She joined her first band, Calliope, in Cardiff, but originally rose to prominence as singer on the sample-based house hits of Shut Up And Dance in the early 90s. Their first female signing, her approach to singing was more blues-based and less shrill than many of the garage divas. She also wrote her own songs, demonstrating a keen talent on singles such as Wicked Mathematics. Other collaborations with the Shut Up And Dance duo, such as I Woke Up and Dove Song, are regarded by many as forerunners of the jungle and drum n bass sound. Later she toured with Massive Attack, featuring on 1994s Protection, before signing a solo recording contract with Talkin Loud Records.
