Biography
This highly inventive modern bluegrass outfit features Chris Thile (Christopher Scott Thile, 20 February 1981, Oceanside, California, USA; mandolin, bouzouki, banjo, vocals), and brother and sister duo Sara Watkins (b. 8 June 1981, USA; fiddle, vocals) and Sean Watkins (b. 18 February 1977, USA; guitar, mandolin, vocals). The California, USA-based trio first met in the late 80s as child prodigies, first performing together in a San Diego pizza parlour. They continued to play and record as a unit during the rest of the decade, with Thile also releasing two solo albums while still in his early teens. The trio recorded their 2000 major label debut for Sugar Hill Records with Thiles father Scott, an acoustic bass player, serving as an unofficial fourth member.
