A loud but melodious US alternative punk band, New Bomb Turks manifesto was to rid their genre of its more dour concerns, re-establishing the sheer adrenaline rush and hedonism of the music. They met while studying at Ohio State University, where each of the members - Eric Davidson (vocals), Jim Weber (guitar), Matt Reber (bass) and Bill Randt (drums) - read English. They first worked together as disc jockeys on campus radio station WSOR, gradually pulling together as a band and making their debut through a series of limited-issue 7-inch singles on the Datapanik label. It was with their 1992 debut album, however, that their arrival was recognized, with Maximum Rock n Roll magazine calling it the album of the year, maybe of the last five years.
