Nerina Pallot

26 April 1975, London, England. Singer-songwriter Pallot was brought up in Jersey in the Channel Islands by her French father and Indian mother. Classically trained on guitar and piano from an early age, she attended music and art college before securing a major label recording contract with Polydor Records in 2000. She released her debut, Dear Frustrated Superstar, the following year, but the album was bedevilled by record company interference and despite radio play for a number of singles, Pallot parted company with Polydor in a cloud of acrimony.

Relishing her status as an independent artist, Pallot guested on the single ‘Truly’ by dance act Delerium and worked on a second album. The partly self-financed Fires was a more accomplished work than her debut, testimony to Pallot’s growing maturity as a songwriter (the title was a nod to American writer Raymond Carver) and her new-found creative freedom.
