Biography
Neon Philharmonic was essentially the work of two musicians, the Nashville, Tennessee-based singer-songwriter and producer Don Gant (24 October 1942, d. 15 March 1987, Nashville, Tennessee, USA) and the author, painter, arranger, conductor and composer Tupper Saussy (b. Frederick Tupper Saussy III, 1936, USA, d. 16 March 2007). Gant's career included writing songs with Roy Orbison and singing solo and background for country artists such as Don Gibson and John D. Loudermilk. He produced records for many artists, including Bobby Bland, Jimmy Buffett and Lefty Frizzell. Gant also ran ABC-Dunhill Records and was president of the Nashville branch of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). Gant teamed with Saussy in 1969 and recorded the latter's "Morning Girl" for Warner Brothers Records with a chamber group comprised of members of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
