Biography

8 September 1970, Alexandria, Virginia, USA. Now based in Tacoma, Washington, country singer Case’s itinerant childhood saw her moving between various locations throughout the USA and Canada. She took up drumming in her late teens, playing with several punk rock outfits before joining the Vancouver-based trio Maow in 1994, and featured on vocals on their solitary album for Mint Records, The Unforgiving Sounds Of Maow. At the same time, Case was studying Art and Design at the Emily Carr Institute of Art in Vancouver and assembling material for her solo debut. Released by Mint in 1997, The Virginian was a traditional-sounding country album which comprised a mixture of Case originals and cover versions, which ranged from the obvious (Loretta Lynn’s ‘Somebody Led Me Away’) to the esoteric (Scott Walker’s ‘Duchess’).
