Biography
Shaffer Chimere Smith, 18 October 1982, Camden, Arkansas, USA. This R&B singer-songwriter began his music career in the late 90s as a songwriter, co-writing material for an impressive number of artists including Mary J. Blige, B2K, Faith Evans, Jamie Foxx, Rihanna and Tyrese. His most notable success was as co-author of Marios 2004 chart-topper Let Me Love You. During this period he also signed a solo contract with Columbia Records, but despite recording a number of tracks for the label nothing was ever released. Despite this chastening experience he was persuaded to sign a new contract with Def Jam Records. At this time he also adopted his recording moniker, which was partially derived from the Neo character in the blockbuster Matrix movies. Ne-Yo worked on new tracks with producers including Norwegian team Stargate and Ron Feemstar.
