Biography

This US alternative rock band was formed in 1999 by Tairrie B. (Theresa Beth, 18 January 1965, Anaheim, California, USA; vocals), who had enjoyed some notoriety earlier in the decade as the singer with metal band Manhole aka Tura Satana and for her solo work as a rap artist. Based in Los Angeles, California, the original line-up of My Ruin featured Mick Murphy (guitar) and Meghan Mattox (bass), with various session musicians filling in behind the drum stool. A frantic cover version of the northern soul classic ‘Tainted Love’ preceded the band’s debut, Speak And Destroy, which flitted restlessly between gothic rock, heavy metal and rap. The follow-up, A Prayer Under Pressure Of Violent Anguish, repeated the formula but was more focused, adding greater impact to the vitriolic rants against organised religion and corrupt governments.
