Biography

This Bremerton, Washington, USA-based punk pop band was formed as Magnified Plaid in 1992 by schoolfriends Mike Herrera (Michael Arthur Herrera, 6 November 1976, Bremerton, Washington, USA; vocals/bass), Andy Husted (guitar) and Yuri Ruley (b. 3 June 1976, Tacoma, Washington, USA; drums). The trio, who had quickly adopted their new shortened moniker, made a local impact in 1994 with the zestful yet catchy Pokinatcha for Seattle label Tooth And Nail Records. Husted was replaced in 1995 by Tom Wisniewski (b. Thomas Edmund Wisniewski, 20 October 1976, Dunoon, Scotland; guitar/vocals), with the new guitarist making his debut on the same year's Teenage Politics.

MxPx's third collection, 1997's Life In General, boasted a more layered and polished sound. It was picked up for distribution and marketing by A&M Records, who subsequently offered the band a full contract (not least because of the success of the attendant single, "Chick Magnet'). The...
