Biography

Formed by indie stalwarts JFT ‘Fred’ Hood, a drummer and friend of Johnny Marr (the Smiths), plus producer Grant Showbiz (the Fall, the Smiths), this was still a decidedly house-aimed project. They first interceded in the UK dance music scene with the release of 1990’s ‘Spiritual High’, a cover version of the Diana Ross song with additional lyrics interspersed from the Beatles’ ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’, with vocals from Chrissie Hynde. After appearing on a blue label it was snapped up by Zoom Records before Arista Records gave it a big push and stock release in 1991. However, instead of building on the acclaim they slaved over their debut album for five years before release.
