The Models were Australias premier new wave band to emerge from the punk period in the second half of 1978. Original member Sean Kelly (guitar, vocals) and James Freud (bass; who joined in 1982), provided much of the Models song material. Both had played together previously in Melbourne punk band the Teenage Radio Stars. The fluctuating line-up of the Models has in the past included notables Andrew Duffield (keyboards; replaced in 1983 by Roger Mason), drummers Janis Johnny Crash Friedenfields and Barton Price, Mark Ferrie (bass, vocals) and James Valentine (keyboards). The band recorded often, and despite enjoying substantial success on the Australian alternative charts, toured frequently and extensively to repay debts that would eventually lead to acrimony between the principal songwriters.
