This gospel choir was formed in 1988 by Frank Williams who was a member of the Jackson Southernaires and an executive of the gospel division of Malaco Records. The choir signed immediately to Malaco under the musical directorship of David R Curry. Serving God Through Song is the motto of the choir. The groups first rehearsal was in 1988 followed by the release of their first CD and video, The Mississippi Mass Choir Live, recorded before an audience of 3, 000 at the Jackson Municipal Auditorium. This release reached number 1 on the Billboard gospel chart and remained there for 45 consecutive weeks, setting a new record. In 1990 they released their second live project, God Gets The Glory, which again reached number 1 in the Billboard gospel chart and was named 1992 Gospel Record Of The Year by Billboard.
