Biography
Formed in 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland, this US band is commonly associated with the underground deathgrind scene. Taking its name from the economic indicator created by US economist Arthur Okun, Misery Index was formed by two former members of death metal band Dying Fetus, Jason Netherton (bass/vocals) and Kevin Talley (21 May 1979, San Antonio, Texas, USA; drums). Mike Harrison (guitar/vocals) completed the original line-up that made its recording debut in 2001 with the Overthrow EP. The trios style drew on death metal and grindcore with an overtly political tone to the lyrics, drawing comparisons to both Dying Fetus and the extreme metal band Assück. Two split EPs with, respectively, Commit Suicide and Structure Of Lies, preceded the release of the album Retaliate in 2003.
