Biography
26 October 1942, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Singer-songwriter Nascimento draws much of his inspiration from Brazils Portuguese heritage, where even the jolliest tune can be counted on to contain more than a frisson of melancholy. His biggest successes, both at home and abroad, came in the 70s with Milagre Dos Peixes (1973, re-released in the UK in 1990) and Milton (1977), the latter featuring contributions from Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Airto Moreira, Roberto Silva and Laudir De Oliviera. First teaming with Shorter on his 1975 album Native Dancer, Nascimento was widely taken up by the Los Angeles music fraternity over the next few years, most notably guesting on albums by Flora Purim, Deodato and Charlie Rouse.
