12 December 1942, Glasgow, Scotland. This multi-instrumentalist, a veteran of several UK beat-era groups, was a founder member of psychedelic folk outfit, the Incredible String Band, with Robin Williamson and Clive Palmer. Herons first solo outing, released in 1971 on Island Records, included such names as the Who and John Cale in the credits, but remained true to the spirit of his main band. After the Incredible String Band split in 1974, Heron remained in England and formed Mike Herons Reputation. This outfit followed a more rock-orientated path, but released only one self-titled set on Neighbourhood Records. Although Heron has gone on to record several more solo albums, albeit on a different label every time, none has achieved the degree of success that his former association with Williamson brought.
