Biography

Tenetira Michelle Williams, 23 July 1980, Rockford, Illinois, USA. Best known as a member of Destiny's Child, vocalist Williams was first a backing singer for other recording artists, before joining the aforementioned, chart-topping soul pop group. Although she sang with artists such as R&B vocalist Monica, Williams' musical background was in the church, appearing on recordings by several gospel-orientated artists. When Destiny's Child was experiencing some friction between its band members (shortly after the dawn of the twenty-first century) and were looking for replacement members, Monica's dance choreographer recommended Williams to Destiny's Child manager, Mathew Knowles. Williams' first appearances with the group included the video for "Say My Name' in addition to a performance at the NBA All-Star game in Oakland.
