Michael Howard Moore, 4 December 1954, Eureka, California, USA. After studying at the New England Conservatory of Music, clarinettist and saxophonist Moore settled in New York. Over the next few years, he worked regularly and very compatibly with contemporary jazz musicians from Holland. Among these was Misha Mengelberg, with whom he worked in the Instant Composers Pool, Han Bennink and Ernst Reijseger, eventually forming with the latter pair the trio, Clusone 3, a band which remained in existence until 1998. In the late 70s Moore visited Holland as an accompanist to a Salt Lake City mime troupe and thereafter commuted frequently between the two countries. In 1985, Moores continuing association with Dutch musicians allied as it was to his awareness that the audience for his form of intellectually demanding music was greater in Europe, prompted him to relocate to Amsterdam.
