Biography
Wallace, North Carolina, USA. After several years’ working as a contemporary Christian performer, both as a solo artist and as a member of the Singing Americans and the Gaither Vocal Band, by the mid-90s English elected to pursue a career in the mainstream pop idiom. The fact that his ensuing album for Curb Records was entitled Freedom was not incidental. Indeed, English saw it as the opportunity to break free of perceived notions of what Christian writers could or should do. As he told Billboard magazine, it afforded him ‘the freedom to sing and not worry if this is going to offend anyone. Now I don’t have to worry about saying “baby” or “girl” or whatever. I don’t have to worry about saying “Jesus” either. I’m free to say whatever I feel there is to say.’ English signed with Curb in 1994 following his departure from Warner Alliance, Warner Brothers Records’ Christian label....
