Conrad Lambert, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. Lamberts musical education began when his parents bought him a snare drum at the age of eight. His hunger to learn about music continued to grow throughout his childhood and he became an accomplished instrumentalist, playing the guitar, bass and piano. After adopting his unusual recording moniker, Merz self-released his first single AM (Good Morning) in 1996, using money given to him by a record company for the purpose of creating a demo. A year later his breakthrough came with the release of Many Weathers Apart. The track attracted the attentions of many major record companies which subsequently bombarded the singer-songwriter with contract offers. Eventually signing to Epic Records, Merz released his debut self-titled album in 1999.
